Dr. Robinsons Murder Scene Story
Diary Entry 1: I have started this diary so that my family may see it long after I am dead. I am stuck here in the book of Tom Sawyer and I see no soon way of me getting out. Anyway it is time for me to go now I will put in more entries to tell my story and what really happened.
Diary Entry 2: It all started one day a few weeks ago it would be now, during winter when I though that I should start reading the book for English, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It was late at night and just as I was just about to finish I think it was chapter 8, when all of a sudden there was a big light that flashed and everything stopped, then before I knew it I was being sucked into my book. They another light flashed and I ended up submerged under water, as I got out I realized that I had ended up in 1845 in America along the Mississippi River. As I climbed out the bank I looked around and saw big tall trees all around and then on the other side of the bank, I saw big, long, grassy fields for as far as the eye can see, as I looked around some more I saw a small village just a small way down the river so I decided to go and check it out. As I reached it I started to walk down the streets, I noticed that the houses were either straw, brick or wood, I saw the small little flower beds in front of peoples houses, their freshly whitewashed fences beaming in the sunlight, I found my self at a graveyard, it was a tall gloomy place with tall brick walls towering over the village on top of the hill. I could hear the cries and screams of people as a massive flock of people gathered around something. As I went to go and check out I began to people saying things like “who could have done something like this” and “oh that poor, poor Dr. Robinson”. As I reached the crowd I saw what all the commotion was about it, it was a man lying there murdered. As soon as I saw it I immediately recognised that I actually was in the book, I looked over they crowd when I recognised the looks of one boy, then it hit me, ‘that’s Tom Sawyer’ I muttered to myself.
Diary Entry 3: So there I was just looking at this dead body and a small knife near as people saw it some yelled out “That be Muff Potter’s Knife, he’s the who’d done this” “T’was him weren’t it” And just like that they were all convinced and before I knew it someone yelled out, “MUFF POTTER!!” When he heard that he stopped and just stared for a while. He looked terrified, like as if a massive stampede was heading his way, but not only that he looked like he was so distraught by what he had done, he just froze there, waiting for the towns folk to storm in front of him and surely enough then did. The crowd had formed, they gathered all in front of Muff when the Sheriff burst through the crowd and grabbed Potter by the arms and guided him toward the body. People were yelling at him, accusing him of this and that. Muff Potter was pretty much crying at this point, you could see the fear in his eyes of what was to come. He would have fallen over with grief if the sheriff hadn’t of caught him. He kept pleading for forgiveness and innocence by saying things like “I didn’t do it friends, ‘pon my word and honor I never done it” he pleaded, but no one listened. Then out of nowhere a voice yelled “who accused you?” it was a native man, I did not know who he was but he seemed to have an aura about him that made everyone shiver with fear and disgust. Potter called him Injun Joe. The sheriff then picked up Potters knife and waved it in front of Potters face and yelled “is this your knife!” as he threw the knife towards him. Someone asked, “Why didn’t ya leave? What did ya come back for?” “I tried to but I couldn’t,” pleaded Potter.
Diary Entry 4: A few minutes later after Injun Joe showed up the put him on the Inquest where he repeated his statement under oath. I saw Tom Sawyer standing next to who I think was Huck Finn. I recognized him from the book. They are standing there just staring at this Native man as he was talking; they looked fascinated and yet upset about what he was saying. Injun Joe then helped a man carry the dead body onto the back of the cart as it road off. I have heard several things around town from the town’s people and how they would like to tar and feather Injun Joe and ‘ride him across the railway’ but no one there was actually brave enough to carry out the act. A few days later I heard news that three boys had gone missing. The whole town was looking for them. But no one knew where they went. The trial on Muff Potter was coming up soon and I had not heard anything.
Diary Entry 5: Not after long everyone assumed that they were dead. They all said that it wouldn’t be long until the funeral for the three boys. Little time passed and the funeral was in session. The whole town attended, I decided to go as well so that I do not arouse suspicion about who I really am. As I walked through the doors of the church and then stood in the corner you could not only see but feel the amount of sorrow floating about in the room. Old ladies and young girls crying and sobbing. Men bowing their heads in respect. It was a truly depressing place to be. The walls we solid brick, cold and uncomfortable. The roof was tall and pointy at the end. There were people everywhere which made it nearly impossible to get around, luckily that was not a problem for me seeing as how I just wanted to stay in the same place and not talk to anybody. Part way into the ceremony someone burst through the door. Everyone turned and rushed towards them as three young boys walked through, it was them all of them, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and Joe Harper. Their parents sprinted towards them as fast as they could and hugged them all but there was one boy that no one hugged or paid and attention to until an old lady walked towards him and hugged him. It looked to me like Aunt Polly. That seemed quite usual of her kind and caring. The room suddenly went from cold and sad to warm, exciting and full of joy from everyone.
Dairy Entry 6: After the funeral everything returned to normal, everyone was happy and playing well. Everyone except Muff Potter. He was still locked up in the jail awaiting judgment. I had been living just outside the local tavern and sometimes the keeper would take pity on me and give me some of the left over food that no one wanted. It wasn’t the best but it would do .I had not heard anything of when the trial would be either no one has bothered to tell me or they haven’t set a date yet. Until one morning I woke up and heard a great deal of excitement coming from the courthouse. I went to go and see what it was and then I saw Muff Potter sitting there in the front and then I immediately tried to get a view until I saw a window near by to go and look through. I had made it just in time for the trial to start. The courthouse was a tall, strong brick building and beaming with authority. IT had white painted walls on the inside and a wooden flood. There was the American flag hanging above the judge as he spoke on top of his stand. As the trial started the court brought forward their first witness, Potters lawyer denied to ask any questions as he did with the second and third witness. It was almost as if he wanted Potter to be killed. Not after long the judge was about to call the case closed until the clerk yelled out “Call Thomas Sawyer to the stand” The Entire room was confused on why he had done that everyone was asking “why, what reason did he done that for” so then Tom approached the stand. He then told his story of how he was there at the graveyard the night of the murder and when he got to the part of how Injun Joe stabbed Dr. Robinson Injun Joe jumped out of his seat and jumped out the window at me hits me in the head then runs of into the distance. My head rang and my gushed with blood. It was a weird feeling being hit that hard for the first time. I’ve got to say I did not enjoy it.
Dairy Entry 7: It has been quite a while since the trial and things have been calming down. I woke up to see all the school kids heading up to a near by cave for a picnic. I saw Tom Sawyer, Becky Thatcher and Joe Harper all pass me by without give me even a glance it was kind of nice to see them enjoying themselves after everything that had happened. A few hours had passed and the school kids returned. But not before long the town was buzzing once again with the news of yet another disappearance of Tom Sawyer but not only that Becky Thatcher had gone missing as well. A massive group of men went on the hunt for them up and McDougals cave I asked if could join them they said no, they said that should just stay at here and mind my own business. They did not return for sometime. By Tuesday the town was in mourning for the to children. Then late at night you could hear faint cheers getting closer and louder. It was them it was the two kids there sitting on the carriage.
Diary Entry 8: It has been about a fortnight since the children’s rescue when I hear word that not only was there the kids in the cave, but Injun Joe was as well. By this time nearly all the men in town were up at the cave to try find the half ‘breed. When they unlocked the door to the cave there it was my second dead body. Injun Joe lay there dead with his knife broken in two near by. Thankfully I think now everything is all rapped up and calmed down. I still don’t know how I’m going to get home or even if I ever will.
Dairy Entry 9: It is good to be back home once again. I thank god for this book but I don’t think it is necessary anymore. I think I’ll burn it. So this will be my last entry but I feel the need to use it to explain just how I got home. As I fell asleep that night after we found Injun Joes dead body and just as I closed my diary another bright light flashed and before I knew I was back home with no reason why but I don’t care I am just thankful that I am back. Anyway it is time for this book to go now and with it my story.
